Cash flow vs. income. What’s the difference?

Income is what you earn by working. A salary, a paycheck from a business you actively run. It stops the day you stop showing up. Cash flow is money that shows up whether you work that day or not. Dividends, rental income, distributions from a business you don’t have to run day-to-day, or a policy loan against cash value life insurance. Your Cash Flow Independence Score is the probability, across thousands of simulated market scenarios, that your independent cash flow grows to fully cover your expenses within your chosen time horizon.

Educational illustration only, not financial, tax, legal, or insurance advice. This tool runs a Monte Carlo projection of your income-producing balances, rental and business income, and cash value life insurance under the market, business, and rental volatility assumptions shown above, plus your chosen inflation rate. Cash value life insurance growth uses a simplified floor/cap crediting assumption and the sustainable draw rate is an illustrative planning assumption. Neither is a policy illustration from any insurance carrier or a guarantee of actual policy performance. Salary and active business income are shown for context only and are not part of the independence calculation. Actual results will vary and are not guaranteed.
